SUMMARY:Generation X and V-Shaped Working
DESCRIPTION:With diversity initiatives focusing on women and millennials are employers missing an opportunity? What can employers do to stop older talent being lost from the other end of the pipeline? Generation X will have increased needs for flexible working in the coming years as they take on caring responsibilities for elderly relatives and other commitments. The Government’s Business Champion for Older Workers\, Andy Briggs\, CEO of Aviva UK Insurance\, will help us examine the need for change and possible solutions. \nLingo:\nV-shaped working is a phrase used to describe those who need to reduce their hours and wages temporarily to accommodate caring responsibilities. \nGeneration X are those aged about 53 and below: too young to retire and stop working\, but old enough to have dependant children and parents. Also known as the sandwich or club sandwich generation (if they have grandchildren). \nMore about the context:\nThe labour market is going to change (like it or not) in the coming years. Employers are going to be competing for a pool of experienced and valuable older workers. Employers who don’t show the flexibility needed to recruit\, retain and retrain those workers are going to be the ones missing out. Baby boomers are currently facing these challenges and progressive employers are already responding to the need for Fuller Working Lives. \nFuller Working Lives: A Framework for Action and Fuller Working Lives: a Partnership Approach explain the UK policy perspective. Sir Steve Webb now at Royal London will join our panel.\nMercer Workforce Monitor: March 2018 Report says more about the looming workforce shortages. Gary Simmons from Mercer will join our panel to discuss the implications. \nAudience:\nThe event is aimed at HR Directors and helping them make the case for change to CEOs\, CFOs and line managers. CEOs and CFOs are also very welcome. \nClick here to register\, using password VXflex
